Attending the PODS International Forum in Dubai: Leveraging PODS through Geonamic Software

Geonamic was honored to participate in the inaugural PODS Forum in Dubai this month. The event was well attended by regional operators and services providers, all of whom expressed serious interest in learning from industry best practices for pipeline data management in support of asset integrity. We were thrilled to be joined by our business partners from Esri Muscat, and our newest client in the region, OQGN.

Changming Du participated in a technical session to present the latest PODS 7 data model, featuring an overview of the model by our data migration lead, Jackie Smith. The session generated lots of discussion about the advantages of a spatial data model, especially when implementing the model on the Esri ArcGIS platform.

Brad Schaaf and Changming Du led a separate technical workshop, “Leveraging your PODS Investment”. The workshop reviewed key advantages in the latest PODS 7 model, especially when compared to legacy PODS relational models that are in widespread use. We reviewed opportunities to leverage PODS 7 data using out-of-the-box Esri technology, including ArcGIS Mobile apps, ArcGIS web apps and dashboards, and new augmented reality (AR) capabilities in the ArcGIS platform. Finally, we demonstrated several example pipeline integrity applications live, using regional data and including advanced data integration, risk assessment, class location, and ILI analysis examples.

The final Geonamic presentation session was a panel presentation session with our client, OQGN from Oman. This presentation included an overview of the recent OQGN migration project to PODS 7, which was successfully completed in less than 3 months. The project team included Esri Muscat and Geonamic, with very close coordination and oversight from OQGN management. Business drivers were reviewed, along with an overview of the migration methodology and related QA/QC. The session also included an overview of lessons learned, to include Esri platform upgrades and replacement of legacy applications for data management, alignment sheet generation, class location, and data integration/reporting.

It was great to be back in the United Arab Emirates and to spend time with partners and clients, and we are already looking forward to the next visit.

Risk Model Improvement Initiative, Continued Conversations

Geonamic and Pipeline-Risk, both leading technology providers in the oil and gas midstream market, have partnered to sponsor a working group of forward-thinking pipeline operators and risk experts. The goal of the working group is to combine the experience, expertise and data of each participant to explore the practicality of adopting advanced and versatile machine-learned risk models. The project will focus on the efficacy of the models, validation of risk results, risk factor sensitivity, as well as model transparency and interpretability. At the end of the project, pipeline integrity managers and risk engineers will have a clear understanding of machine learning methods and whether machine learning risk assessment is suitable for their Integrity Management and Risk Assessment program.
