Geonamic Transforms Pipeline Integrity Data into Actionable Intelligence with Buckeye Partners

What happens when years of fragmented pipeline integrity data are transformed into a single, intelligent platform?

At the Esri Energy Resources GIS Conference (ERGIS), Geonamic’s Yan Wang joined Buckeye Partners’ Jeffrey Watson to share how the two organizations partnered to modernize pipeline integrity management using ArcGIS, PODS 7, and Geonamic’s PipelineOffice Studio.

Like many pipeline operators, Buckeye faced the challenge of managing inline inspection (ILI) data spread across dozens of spreadsheets from multiple vendors. The result was inconsistent data, time-consuming manual analysis, and limited visibility across the pipeline network.

By implementing a centralized data platform built on PODS 7 and Esri’s ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing (APR), Buckeye has fundamentally changed how its integrity engineers analyze data, prioritize risk, and make investment decisions. The presentation also demonstrates powerful visualization capabilities, including synchronized band views, interactive mapping, 3D anomaly visualization, and an innovative Emergency Flow Restriction Device (EFRD) analysis tool that helps optimize valve placement while reducing engineering time and costs.

Watch this presentation to learn:

  • How Buckeye eliminated fragmented spreadsheets by creating a standardized, enterprise-wide pipeline integrity data platform.
  • How integrated visualization tools help engineers identify risk faster using synchronized band views, interactive maps, and 3D anomaly analysis.
  • How automated EFRD analysis identifies optimal valve placement to reduce potential release volumes while improving investment decisions.
  • How a modern GIS foundation prepares pipeline operators for AI, advanced analytics, and data-driven decision making that improves safety, reliability, and operational performance.

Whether you’re responsible for pipeline integrity, GIS, engineering, or digital transformation, this session provides a practical look at how modern data architecture can unlock new operational capabilities.

Watch the full ERGIS presentation to see the technology in action and hear directly from both Buckeye Partners and Geonamic about the results they’ve achieved.

Congratulations to Courtenay Morgan, PM/Consultant, who is our first PODS Certified team member. PODS Certification is a brand new offering from PODS that Geonamic is proud to take part of.

Courtenay was excited to become certified, “I believe PODS Certification gives our clients added confidence that the guidance I provide is grounded in recognized industry practices. It reflects Geonamic’s commitment to continual growth and to evolving our expertise as client needs, technologies, and regulatory requirements change.”

In addition to Courtenay’s certification, Apurva Joshi, acting PODS TEE Chair, has been an integral part of bringing PODS Certification into fruition alongside other dedicated PODS member volunteers.

“PODS Certification is a trusted benchmark for expertise in the PODS data model and pipeline data management best practices. It gives pipeline operators confidence that certified providers have the technical knowledge and practical skills needed to deliver consistent, accurate, and high-quality data management solutions.

By recognizing qualified professionals, PODS Certification promotes greater standardization, reliability, and trust across the pipeline industry, making it easier for operators to identify experienced partners who can effectively support their data management needs.

If you work with PODS or pipeline data, now is a great time to earn your certification. It’s an excellent way to validate your expertise, demonstrate your commitment to industry best practices, and distinguish yourself as a trusted professional in the pipeline data community.

We encourage all service providers to take the next step and become PODS Certified!

Geonamic Presents PODS Strategic Implementation Award to CHS

Congratulations CHS, Inc.!

As a Gold Sponsor of the PODS Association, Geonamic was proud to participate in this year’s Spring Forum and celebrate organizations advancing pipeline data management. During the awards program, Geonamic presented the Strategic Implementation Award to CHS Inc., recognizing the company’s successful implementation of the latest version of PODS despite significant project complexity and implementation challenges. The award honors operator members that demonstrate exceptional leadership in modernizing their pipeline data environment while overcoming major technical or organizational obstacles. Kathleen Powers accepted the award on behalf of CHS, highlighting the organization’s commitment to innovation and excellence in pipeline data management.

Pipeline operators today are data-rich but often insight-poor. Decades of integrity and asset data—especially high-value inspection data such as ILI—are frequently underutilized due to fragmented systems and manual analysis workflows. At the same time, AI/ML initiatives demand structured, high-quality data to deliver meaningful results.

This PODScast explores how the Pipeline Open Data Standard (PODS) provides a standardized, enterprise-grade data foundation purpose-built for pipeline operations. By organizing assets, inspections, welds, anomalies, and repair data into a consistent relational framework, PODS enables efficient data integration, improves data quality, and significantly reduces preparation effort for analytics.

We will demonstrate how PODS-structured data accelerates AI/ML readiness and supports advanced integrity use cases, including multi-run anomaly matching and predictive corrosion growth modeling. The session will also highlight how operators can transition from reactive, periodic reviews to proactive, predictive integrity management.

Join Geonamic to learn how structured integrity data unlocks scalable AI/ML, enhances decision-making, reduces risk, and drives more efficient and reliable pipeline operations.
