20 Years of Geonamic: Innovation Grounded in Lasting Relationships

Geonamic was founded in 2006 on a simple principle: when you consistently deliver exceptional work and genuinely care about your clients, lasting relationships follow.

Our story began when former pipeline operators reached out to founder Yan Wang seeking help solving complex GIS and pipeline integrity challenges. Together with Changming Du, those first projects became the beginning of Geonamic. Later, Brad Schaaf joined the leadership team, bringing complementary business expertise that helped transform a growing technology company into one of the industry’s most trusted partners.

The early days were humble. Our founders wrote software, cleaned the office before customer meetings, and worked late into the night because every client mattered. That same dedication continues today.

Unlike many technology companies, Geonamic has never accepted outside investment. Remaining independently owned allows every decision to focus on one priority: creating long-term value for our clients. Rather than chasing rapid growth, we have grown through referrals, trusted partnerships, and a reputation for solving difficult problems.

Today, Geonamic helps pipeline operators modernize GIS infrastructure, implement PODS and ArcGIS technologies, improve data quality, and prepare for the future of AI-enabled asset management. Our clients range from regional operators to some of the largest pipeline companies in the world.

Technology continues to evolve, but our values have not. We believe innovation succeeds when it improves people’s work, relationships matter more than transactions, and the best partnerships are measured not in months, but in decades.

PODS Global Summit Calgary Alongside IPCE 2026

Thank you to the PODS Association, presenters, sponsors, volunteers, and attendees for organizing a successful event. Geonamic is honored to contribute to the PODS community through leadership, collaboration, and continued support of industry standards.

Geonamic was proud to participate in the PODS Global Summit 2026 in Calgary, held alongside IPCE 2026, where pipeline operators, industry leaders, and technology partners came together to discuss the future of pipeline data management, standards, and innovation.

Representing Geonamic at the summit were Yan Wang, Co-Chair of the PODS Technical Committee on Data Modeling (TCDM), and Apurva Joshi, Chair of the PODS Training, Education, and Events (TEE) Committee. Their participation reflects Geonamic’s ongoing commitment to supporting the PODS community and advancing industry best practices.

The summit opened with updates from Cameron Ludwig, PODS Board Vice President, and Monique Roberts, PODS Executive Director, who shared insights into the organization’s strategic direction, international growth, committee initiatives, certification programs, and learning resources.

Some of the event highlights included:

  • The Operator of the Year Award presented by Petro IT
  • A keynote presentation from Tony Kateryniuk (Enbridge) discussing the future of pipeline data management and industry challenges
  • A presentation from Vintri showcasing innovative technologies and solutions for the pipeline industry
  • Working Group updates from Alwyn Owen and Keith Leewis covering Construction and Geohazards initiatives and ongoing standards development

Beyond the presentations, the summit provided valuable opportunities to connect with industry professionals, exchange ideas, and discuss the evolving role of data, GIS, integrity management, and digital transformation across the pipeline industry.

The day concluded with the PODS Social at PinPointe Social, where attendees continued conversations and strengthened relationships across the PODS community.
